The Fahrthofer Distillery combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative and sustainable production. The film follows the Fahrthofer family through their history, showcasing the orchards of the Mostviertel region, the processing of regional raw materials, and the production of high-quality distillates. Authentic insights into the distillery, modern production facilities, and the company’s philosophy convey how passion, quality, and responsibility result in exceptional brandies and spirits.

As part of the redesign of the distillery, we were commissioned to create five films, each concluding with a quiz. Visitors must solve the quiz using objects found in the room, and upon successful completion, they proceed to the next film. The films also serve as an introduction to the subsequent tour of the distillery’s exhibition spaces.

Implementation

After the initial site visit, it quickly became clear that condensing the wealth and complexity of the content into a roughly 15-minute film—divided into five individual segments—would be an exciting challenge. Our initial concepts emphasized that the two main characters, Josef Farthofer Senior and Junior, had to form the emotional core. Their passion for their work is palpable; the entire company is built upon them.

The production of the spirits and the distillery itself needed to be showcased effectively, offering viewers previously unseen insights. Furthermore, historical aspects surrounding the historical figure Johann Kirchweger were also to be included. To present this historical content in an engaging way and bring the story to life, we opted for a solution incorporating illustrated animations, in addition to the otherwise live-action footage.
